Poppy REALLY Needs Her Forever Home!!!

Poppy has been with our group for over a year now.  She is really really needing her forever home.  She is about 4 years old, solid white with some liver spots, big warm brown eyes, and very sweet and loving.  She is a bigger girl at about 80 lbs and is currently on a diet/exercise program to lose 10 lbs.  She needs a home that will keep up her structured diet and make sure she gets daily walks to keep her fit.  She is very active and playful, and also really enjoys chilling on the couch.  She loves little dogs, but she is hit or miss with large dogs.  She seems to do best with laid back males.  She isn't aggressive, but she plays in a way that is usually misperceived by other dogs, so it ends up being a negative interaction.  Poppy must have had bad ineractions with children in her former life, because she really doesn't like kids.  She will need to be adopted into a child-free environment.  She does do well with teens though.  As you can see Poppy has some special needs, and we really must find just the right place for her.  If you think you would be interested in adopting Poppy, or even fostering to see how it goes, contact shonda@dogstarrescue.com

Meet Rufus!

Rufus is a german shepherd bordercollie/pitbull mix. He turned 1 years old on Sept 1. He is fully vetted, healthy, neutered and microchipped. House broken and crate trained. He even likes to share his foster brothers kennel with him.

Rufus is ready to be put to work! With his working breeds he will gladly trot along with you with his doggie backpack on a nice walk in the neighborhood. He is a dream on the leash so this makes the walks so much more enjoyable. Rufus is also a great car dog and will just curl up and sleep until you get to where you are going.

He is a high energy breed, so he will need ways to help drain his energy. He gets along great with other dogs when introduced properly. He has no problem letting someone else be the alpha dog.
He loves to be puzzled and learn new things. Toys, like Kongs and other puzzle toys, help drain his energy mentally and loves to learn new tricks. He would be fun to enroll in a training course and see how smart he can get. He would also be a good canidate for agility.

Rufus needs a family that will gladly work with his training and provide the proper exercise for him. Someone to cuddle up with him and provide a warm soft bed, a nice full belly and lots of love.
If you are interested in adopting Rufus please contact Kali at kalixoxo@gmail.com

Cami the mini pittie looking for love...

Cami is a full grown mini-pittie!  She is about 28 lbs and is almost three years old.  She is down to one eye due to an unfortunate incident with a ferrell kitty, and she has a few scraps and scars on her from being attacked by another dog in a former life.  She has had a tough go, but she is the sweetest little snuggle bug you would ever meet.  She likes all people, including kids, and most of the time she likes other dogs (she lives with three others now and gets along fine).  She has pretty severe storm anxiety though, and she gets really cranky with other dogs when she feels the barometric pressure go down.  Since most people can't always keep up with the weather that closely, we would prefer her to go to a home where she is an only doggie.  Then it's a non issue.  She has had all of her shots, is house and crate trained, and is spayed.  She is hw neg and on monthly prevention.  Look at that face!

Meet Guest Dog Pinky

Pinky is a 2 year old female, spayed, UTD on vaccines Pit bull Terrier. Her temperament with kids is great but she is very energetic so she could knock over small kids. But she's very well behaved and knows quite a bit of obedience. She needs more leash work, I've done some just not enough with her.

When strangers meet her they need to stand up and give her treats. Then they are golden. But people who walk up to her and just start talking to her and petting her she's scared of and can act a bit frightened and bark or nip. No one should EVER greet a dog like this anyway but people do. She needs people to allow her to come to them, they should drop or hand her treats and then she’s fine. Once she likes you, she likes you.

She tires out quickly and does well with just about a 15-20 minute walk a couple times a day. She will play with toys all day long. She loves toys. She'll lie on her mat and chew a bone forever. She's very good about chewing toys.
She’s going to best as an only dog as she doesn’t do well with other dogs. It’s advised that she be an only dog.

She has never shown any signs of resource guarding and is excellent even with a bone. I never encourage people to grab things from dogs but if you need to take something from her she doesn't mind at all.

August Doggie Updates

Cami is doing wonderfully in her foster home.  This little pocket pittie is full grown and only 28 lbs. (2-3 yrs. old).   Cami likes kids and older folks.  She likes all people really.  She is sometimes not so good with other dogs, so would do best as an only child.  She is crate and house trained.

Lulu is doing great in her current foster home.  She has gotten to swim and go boating this summer!  She is great with other dogs and children. She has recovered completely from the nerve damage in her hind leg and she walks, runs, swims like any other dog.  Lulu is fully vetted and ready to move on to her forever home!!
UPDATE LULU HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Poppy has moved on to a new foster home. Poppy has been with Dog Star the longest and needs to find her forever home!! She only gets along with small dogs, for she thinks she is a designer doggie herself. Also, no kids in the home.

Sparrow is coming out of her shell more each day. Sparrow is in need of a foster or even better her forever home. She is improving with crate training and is enjoying snuggling and cuddling a lot more. Remember Sparrow was neglected for the first few months of her life. One would think any dog would love a good scratch behind the ear, but when you are raised with no human contact it can be a scary thing.
UPDATE: SPARROW HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Mars has had an adventure the past month. He has been in and out of the shelter and finally in a foster home with us. He is 6-7 years old. Perfect for someone looking for a laid back old man. He could care less at the vet when a cat hissed at him so he would be good with cats and we imagine kids too. He is fully vetted and hw negative.
UPDATE:  MARS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Meet Guest Dog Stretch

Stretch is about one year old and weighs 53 pounds. He is neutered, fully vetted and HW negative He is housebroken. He is a young man so he has a lot of energy. He does need some training... more than Ryan, his current foster parent, is able to give him. However, he learned sit/stay very quickly so he is ready to be trained and obey. He will need to learn how to walk on his leash like a gentleman. Stretch is great with people, never barks or growls and loves to snuggle and be close. He can get a little excited around new people but again, this is where training will come in. Stretch does not know a stranger so he would not be a good guard dog!! LOL! However, he is not always on his best behavior at the dog park. Stretch likes to play hard and rough and only a few dogs (other bullies) can match him. Also, the pit bull in him can come out especially if he starts to chase and he can go in to prey drive. Ryan feels that Stretch may be best in a home where he is the only dog or maybe w/ a female his own size who loves to play like he does.

Lulu Needs Help!!!

Update:  Since the happenings below, Lulu has made about a 99.9% recovery.  We got her the help she needed, and her legs are functioning almost perfectly.  She looks and feels great.  She runs, swims, boats, plays with other dogs, and goes up and down stairs like any other dog.  She is such a happy girl ready for her forever homel! 7/30/12

If you follow our Facebook page then you already know that Lulu has had some trouble.

In April we took Lulu to get spayed and there were complications. The vet could not get her bleeding under control and she ended up losing a lot of blood. They had to do a blood transfusion and she stayed in the hospital for a few days.

What was a planned $150 spay turned into over $800 vet bill after everything was all said and done. Lulu was in heat when she got spayed so we figured it was from that. But turns out that Lulu may have a clotting issue and this would have happened regardless of if she was in heat or not.

Sadly, that is not the end of Lulu's troubles. She has a sciatic nerve injury so her back legs are not working properly. She is having trouble walking and getting around. Because her back legs are getting weak she is losing muscle tone. We have to get Lulu into some physical therapy and we are looking into acupuncture as well. If she does not get better there is a risk she could lose her back legs. We do not want this for this sweet girl.

We still are paying off vet bills from Addie and her surgery to remove her front leg. Dog Star has been extremely low on funds lately. We haven't been able to take in anymore dogs because we need to focus on getting the ones we have now healthy. So, we send out this plea to our community to help with Lulu's vet bills. Any donation, any amount will be greatly appreciated!! Below is a ChipIn account set up for Lulu. Every dollar donated will be used in Lulu's recovery!
